Recreational Level Gymnastics for Kids – Gymnastics Skokie

Kids laying on floor in the middle of a colourful gymnastics tent in a gymnastics skokie class.

At Taiga Gymnastics, we want every child to experience the pure joy of movement! Recreational gymnastics is about having fun, learning new skills at your own pace, and feeling proud of small achievements—without pressure to compete. We don’t measure children by their abilities; we meet each child as an individual, curious and ready to explore. Our goal is to encourage trying, teach ways to learn, and make movement an enjoyable adventure.

What Recreational Gymnastics Looks Like

No previous experience is needed. Classes focus on fun, developing motor skills, and learning together in a supportive group. Children get to succeed through practice and effort, understanding that simply participating is what matters most. Every child grows at their own pace, and our exercises are designed to support healthy development.

Benefits for kids

Recreational gymnastics offers so much more than just learning moves:

  • Builds strength, flexibility, and coordination

  • Helps focus and builds confidence

  • Encourages creativity with balls, ropes, hoops, and mats

  • Develops teamwork and social skills

We often have children who have never run backwards, jumped rope, or practiced basic balance exercises. At Taiga, we guide them step by step, celebrate each little success, and make sure movement is always fun. Gymnastics is more than fancy equipment—it’s about using your body, moving with awareness, and discovering what you can do.

Why Gymnastics in Skokie?

Our classes run in partnership with the Skokie Park District at the spacious and welcoming Weber Center. Small, safe groups and skilled instructors make it easy for families from Niles, Evanston, Wilmette, and beyond to participate. Skokie is central and family-friendly, making it simple to find local activities that are enriching and fun.

Tips for Parents

  • Age to start: We welcome children from age three. A child is ready when they feel comfortable staying with the group and coach during class.

  • Parent presence: Parents are always welcome to watch the first class. Later, a short walk nearby lets kids focus on their own experience while parents enjoy a small break.

  • Clothing: Comfortable clothes and bare feet are best. Moving barefoot is excellent for balance, coordination, and overall motor skill development.

How to register

You can sign up for our Skokie gymnastics classes through the Skokie Park District website. Families in Lincolnwood and Glencoe can register via their local park district pages.

At Taiga Gymnastics, our coaches are here for the kids. We hold hands when they are nervous, cheer when they succeed, and make sure everyone experiences the joy of movement. Every child deserves to feel proud of themselves, and our recreational gymnastics classes in Skokie are designed to make that happen.💜
